LPR Site is Back Online After FIVE Days - Barcelona Destination

My ranting a raving finally paid off. Globat fixed their SQL server and then sent me instructions for refreshing the LPR database. This seems to have fixed the slow loading issue and things now appear to be working OK; FIVE days from my initial support contact. This is just not good enough.

I need a holiday!

The destinations directory at LPR is full of excellent travel and destination articles and is a good place to start any holiday research.

Barcelona sounds like a good place to visit for a good night out. This is the LPR destination article of the week.

Sleepless Barcelona

Barcelona has a pretty hectic nightlife and even though it starts late it also ends late or more precisely early in the morning, without taking into account the after parties that go until midday.

There are party establishments all over the city and sometimes you do not even need one because the party atmosphere is everywhere, in the streets, on the beach, you just need the right attitude.

You do not have to worry about the area of the city you are staying in because in every district there is an amazing place to go to. If you are in La Barceloneta you could party at Le Kashba, the Catwalk or Danzatoria. In Eixample you can go to Domestic, Sala Cibeles or Guardarropia. In El Raval party can be found in Salsitas, La Paloma or el Moog. In Montjuic, more specifically in the Spanish village you can go to La Terrazza or Discoteque; And these are just a few examples of the countless alternatives you have in some of the areas of Barcelona.

No matter what day of the week it is you will find party in Barcelona. There are places that open the 360 days of the year and some others open almost every day of the week but surely there will be a good establishment opened the day you are in town.

Usually the party starts in the bars which are opened until 3 am, after that night lovers head to the night clubs that close at 6 or 7 am and if you are the type that wishes to get going you can always find a good after party.

A good piece of advise is to relax and rest through the evening and in the early night not only in order to save energy but also because the night activities begin around 11 pm, never go to a bar before that time or to a nightclub before 2 am, there is no point because it will be dead, therefore you can get bored waiting until the party gets started.

Be prepared to meet loads of people from many places, including the most exotic, while partying in Barcelona. People that party in Barcelona are very outgoing and will talk to you as if they knew you for a long time, do not feel intimidated if a complete stranger offers you a drink or a cigarette as a way to start a conversation.

Finally it is important for visitors to know that Barcelona has all kinds of parties, there is a place for every person to enjoy through the night. There are techno places, as well as hip hop, salsa, funk, alternative, electronic and many more.

There is no doubt the party scene of Barcelona is outstanding, it will not disappoint you.

MORE ABOUT BARCELONA

Destination Guides > Europe & Russia > Europe > Spain > Barcelona

Barcelona has boomed since the early 1990s, when preparations for the Olympic Games wrenched it into modernity, and today it remains well in the vanguard of other Spanish cities (with the possible exception of Madrid) in terms of prosperity, stability and cultural activity. It's a confident, progressive city, looking towards the rest of Europe for its inspiration and its innovations - the classic tourist images of Spain seem firmly out of place in Barcelona's bustling central boulevards and stylish modern streets. And style is what brings many visitors here, attracted by enthusiastic newspaper and magazine articles which make much of the outrageous architecture, user-friendly city design, agreeable climate and frenetic nightlife. Even the medieval Gothic quarter and its once-notorious red-light area have been swept up by the citywide renovation programme, which is still running at full tilt. As the new millennium starts Barcelona has continued to blossom from provincial city to putative European capital.

Good restaurants and cafés are easily found all over the city, though you'll probably do most of your eating where you do most of your sightseeing, in the old town, particularly around the Ramblas and in the Barri Gòtic. Don't be afraid to venture into the Barrio Chino which hides some excellent restaurants, some surprisingly expensive, others little more than hole-in-the-wall cafés. In the Eixample prices tend to be higher, though you'll find plenty of lunchtime bargains around. Gràcia , further out, is a nice place to spend the evening, with plenty of good mid-range restaurants. For the food which Barcelona is really proud of - elaborate sarsuelas (fish stews) and all kinds of fish and seafood - you're best off in the Barceloneta district (Metro Barceloneta, or bus #64 or #17, final stop), down by the harbour, or in the Port Olímpic (Metro Ciutadella, or bus #41 or #59). Nor should you necessarily eschew local chain or franchise outfits, which can be surprisingly good and sometimes score quite well on ambience and decor.

The best times to go to Barcelona are late spring and early autumn , when the weather is still comfortably warm, around 21-25°C and walking the streets isn't a chore. In summer , the city can be unbearably hot and humid with temperatures averaging 28°C. August, especially, is a month to be avoided, since the climate is at its most unwelcoming and many shops, bars and restaurants close for the month as local inhabitants head out of the city in droves. It's worth considering a winter break in the city, as long as you don't mind the prospect of occasional rain. It's generally still warm enough to sit out at a café, even in December when the temperature hovers around 13°C.

Web Hosting and Dis-services

The LPR web site is nearly back to normal. It's taken me 4 days and endless emails and live chat sessions with Globat support. I got really mad at them at one stage and considered closing the whole thing down...

Anyway, visitors to the LPR site can now expect pages to load in around 5 seconds rather than 4+ minutes.

Actually, this brings attention to an area of online business that many do not consider in risk assessments. Just what can a web site owner do when their hosting company is unresponsive or dismissive when a support request is submitted? Well, with Globat it seems you just have to wait and wait and wait. I never once got a feeling that any sense of urgency was being applied. A very sorry state of affairs.

Quote from the article below:

"Actually the root cause of most trouble when webmasters and site owners are switching hosts is that most people are very upset at the time of the switch and just want to get rid of their old host as soon as they possibly can. This emotional approach when switching web hosts can be extremely damaging and should be avoided at all costs."

NOW, THAT IS SO TRUE!

Today's top article stays on topic with an article that outlines some things to check BEFORE signing up with a web host.

Why Choosing The Right Hosting Company Is Important- By: Ian Bell

Description : You only need to do a search from within Google to give you some idea of the number of web hosting companies that there are out there all over the world.

Hopefully as you are going to be a business user of the Internet, you need to be choosing a hosting company that caters for business users and you should not to be tempted to use any of the free hosting services.

So how do you decide?

Well when you choose a company to host your Internet business web site, then you want one that is going to be totally reliable, feature packed and have some top class support to help you with every aspect of hosting your site. Now unless you are building a web site that is going to contain thousands of pages, pictures, music files and video streams, I don't really think you need to concern yourself too much now regarding disk storage size and monthly bandwidth usage.

However, your decision should include as to whether you can upgrade your hosting package easily as and when it may be required. By this I mean paying for extra storage and bandwidth should it become necessary, this way you can start on a smaller and cheaper hosting plan and when you grow, your hosting grows with you.

You also need what is called cPanel that also includes Fantastico, this is your main control panel for your web site from where you can easily alter, arrange and set up many, many aspects of your web site including your email addresses, you can set up several email addresses for example, marketing, sales, info, admin etc at yourdomain.com Now generally most webmasters have a difficulty here in choosing a hosting company, as most always look very similar in terms of what they offer. Which brings me to this point, personally I think you should choose your hosting company from personal recommendations whenever you can as experience can count for a lot.

For instance the hosting company I use may not be the cheapest on the market but then again, it's a long way off from being one of the dearest, but it is one of the best. Let me explain briefly a little more of what you should be looking for when deciding on you choosing the right hosting company. Below I have listed just some of the points from my own hosting company for you to look out for when choosing your own hosting: You need to look for hosting that can guarantee around 99.9% up time. Live support you can talk with a live person is a nice option. 24/7/365 phone support as well as email.

Choose your hosting that includes cPanel and Fantastico. cPanel demo shows you round cPanel that explains everything about it all. Their cpanel is one of the best in the industry. Tutorials (some are shown in Flash) covering all aspects of your hosting. 52 scripts that you can easily install that includes from running your own Blog, to having your own forum, to installing your own shopping mall. There is a knowledge base also that answers a lot of already asked questions. A user forum where you can ask other webmasters, questions regarding your hosting.

Whether you can pay for your hosting monthly or yearly. Offer of a 30-day money back guarantee if things should change in that period.

How To Switch Web Hosts Without Losing Traffic And Profits

Switching web hosts should not be such a difficult thing to do smoothly and with minimal hassles. Yet the truth is that usually plenty of things do end up going wrong and the probability of a site being down for several days during a change over is very high and tends to happen rather frequently.

Still by taking a couple of simple precautions you can easily avoid all the common pitfalls that often accompany a simple change over.

The first thing that you must never forget is the fact that you have to establish a new hosting account long before closing your old web hosting one. In fact you should even go further and ensure that your old web host keeps a copy of your site for several weeks after the switch. There are some important technical reasons for this, which I will now go into.

Firstly, it takes a couple of hours, and this can stretch into a day or so, to establish a new hosting account. If you have shut down everything at your old hosts, then it means that your site will not be live or reachable by any of your visitors during those hours or days it takes you to establish the new account.

Secondly the reason for keeping a copy of your site with your old host for a couple of weeks after you have changed hosts, has to do with something called DNS. DNS stands for domain name server. It is critical for anybody in the web hosting business to understand that computers do not use domain names to trace websites. Instead IP addresses are used. To perform the conversion and find the domain name that has been requested, a number of computers are usually involved which act as domain name servers that are able to attach certain IP addresses to specific domain names that have been requested. A DNS cannot handle all conversions so what happens is that it converts local domain names on which it has information on and passes on others to the next DNS. This will continue until the information reaches a DNS capable of making the conversion.

Now when you make a switch, it will take a while for all domain name servers to update their information on you. So some domain name servers will initially refer surfers to your old host. What this means is that if everything has been shut down then the surfer will get a page not found error message. This is precisely why it is advisable to keep a copy of your site with the old host for a few weeks after the switch to a new host so as to ensure a smooth transition free of any glitches.

Actually the root cause of most trouble when webmasters and site owners are switching hosts is that most people are very upset at the time of the switch and just want to get rid of their old host as soon as they possibly can. This emotional approach when switching web hosts can be extremely damaging and should be avoided at all costs.

LPR Get a Travel Article Published in the London Times "Your World Map"

Congratulations to the Boss at LPR, he finally got an article published that HE wrote himself.

The London Times are building a travel map where anyone can add their holiday/travel stories. The technology is similar to Google Maps and is easy to use (must be, if the Boss managed it).

Here's the link to his article: http://yourworld.timesonline.co.uk/index.php?storyId=1157

Well done.

Boss, it would be really useful if you started writing some content for OUR web site (grin).

My names "AnnC", I don't usually update this blog, but everyone's off sick and that means I have to take a turn.

LPR pay me to read and approve articles, write new content and learn HTML by using my Yahoo 360 Blog account. I love the job, but it can get a bit boring reading 20 or 30 articles about the same old "Online Marketing - 5 Ways to Earn $xx,xxx per Day" or similar. I delete most of that kind of rubbish and move on to more interesting stuff.

Not bad figures for a web site that's less than 6 month's old. It's taken a lot of hard work and team effort. The next 6 month's should be fun.

This is my Top-Article-Of-The-Day:

What To Do When You're Bored Stiff

Our lives are so hectic now days that it can be hard to think of times that we may be bored and have nothing to do. However, if you are off work, or school, and find yourself stuck indoors because it is pouring down outside then the chances are that you are looking for something that can keep you occupied. So, what can you do? Well, one option is to play online games. There are literally hundreds of sites that you can play a wide variety of games, and many are free.

The choice of games that you can play for free online is huge. There are a number of websites that offer a variety of different types for you to choose from. You might fancy trying your hand at something simple, to begin with, in which case you can find slot-style machines. If you are a fan of casino-style games there are also many other types for you to choose from including blackjack and poker.

Other free online games are classed as puzzles ands involve some skill. These include modern versions of Tetris style games or the ever-popular Sudoku number puzzle. There are always new games to discover that involve different levels revolving around a quest for hidden treasure or other mystery. These can be really addictive! Many classic card and board games are now available to play as free online versions too. These range from a solo game of solitaire to a game of Scrabble against other opponents.

Many of the websites also organize tournaments where you can play a variety of games to win prizes. Some of the most popular involve word games or role-playing shoot-em-up style ones. These are similar to those designed for games consoles and can have extremely realistic graphics. The only problem that you may have with some of these is that the quality of the game depends heavily on your Internet connection speed.

If you are at a loose end and are looking for a fun way to pass the time, then free online games could be the solution. Some even offer prizes that you can win, without spending a cent. What could be better than having the chance to win something by having fun? Many of the casino games offer you points when you win. These points can then be exchanged for tickets that are entered into prize draws. You may be lucky and win anything from a chocolate fondue maker to a widescreen television!

Another bonus of many of the free online gaming sites is that they have active chatrooms. This can be a great way to meet new people and have a bit of a gossip while you are playing a game. Some of the games allow you to chat to your opponent if you are playing a multiplayer game. Others have general chat rooms that you can hang out in while you are taking a break from your gaming. Either way, there is no need to be bored. You can find a great game to play and chat to some new people to pass the time.

The easiest way to find these websites is to enter free online games into your search engine. You will be spoiled for choice! Of course, if you have a particular favorite and would like to see if it is available, then search for that by name. To get you started, there is a great site, games.com, which has a huge variety of free online games of every genre. They have very active chatrooms, too, with players from all over the world so there is always someone online. This is one of the things that makes it a truly World Wide Web. No matter what time of the day, or night, it is where you are there is always someone else around who wants to chat and challenge you to a game, or two.

So, if you have a computer, with an internet connection, there really is no need to be bored. Just take a look at all of the choice that there is out there. You are bound to find a game that you enjoy to help while away the hours. Just be careful, you may find that you end up spending all of your time playing free online games. Then again, at least you won't be bored!

Time Goes By and Other Things...

I've got NO [time] for you...

[Time] to put up, or shut up

What [time] zone are you on

Does [time] have a mass or is it a concept

    Over[time]

What IS the speed of [time]?

    Who invented [time]

Top article for the day... made me think. If you have [time] it's worth a read.

Where Does Time Go And How Can I Stop It?

As a child I thought my grandmother was a bit strange because she complained about how fast time went. Fast? It was forever until cookie time. That was then. Now time passes so fast I feel wind burn.

I have to prioritize. I have to learn to say no because no one will say it for me. I have to stop worrying about things that probably won't happen - skip to the worst case scenario, figure out how to handle it and let go.

A friend handles her worries by writing them on slips of paper. She puts the slips into a special box, which she calls God's mailbox, and then she lets go.

Instant coffee, two-hour photo, same-day dry cleaning all feed our need to get things done fast. Computers, e-mail and cell phones further feed our fast frenzy. In spite of all that, we can't save any time to do nothing.

In spite of grandmother's complaints, time must have passed slower for her generation. Daily activities took longer - cooking, corresponding, traveling. There must have been time to daydream.

If you want to see where time went, you can look at how far you've progressed in your career, how much your children have grown - how much the roots of your hair show. You can also look at credit card bills, car loans and mortgage payments. At least these leave paper trails.

Time goes faster when you're having fun and the trip back from a vacation goes faster than the trip to it.

You can try to slow time down, but I've found only two ways. One is having a root canal and the other is a visit from my mother-in-law. Both are too painful.

Holding a jar of thyme in my hand worked - but only when I was cooking.

We spend one-third of our lives in bed - but not necessarily sleeping. My husband lies in bed worrying about not sleeping. Because most heart attacks occur in bed during the early morning hours, get up. You want to slow time - not stop it.

Eventually we have to bite the bullet - but not too hard - and stop wasting time worrying about how fast it goes. Time made me who I am today; and if I avoid mirrors, I like who I am. Nevertheless, I can't figure out how to stop and smell the roses I never had time to plant.

Junk In The Trunk In Texas - Probably THE Best Article Title Ever

The "Junk In The Trunk In Texas" article was the very last article posted at LPR today. One of the young article approvers rushed over to me and said, "The article content is common sense, but the TITLE is (she was lost for words) brill, fantast... and settled for inspired.

A vote was taken.

Today's (and probably the month's) top article TITLE is:

Junk In The Trunk In Texas Is Caused By Caloric Imbalances

The fat surplus linked to excess weight and obesity is caused by an imbalance between the amount of calories we consume and the amount of calories we burn during physical activity. So, in order to avoid putting on weight, which strategy should be adopted? Eat less or exercise more?

Calories are a measure of the energy contained in food as carbohydrates, proteins or fats. The amount of calories we need each day directly depends on the amount of energy we use. For example, a construction worker in Dallas, Houston or anywhere in Texas must consume more calories than an office worker does.

As a general rule, it's estimated that the majority of people need between 2,000 and 3,000 calories per day to meet their physical needs. Unless you are a nutrition expert, however, it's extremely difficult to know precisely the number of calories you eat daily.

If you have a stable weight, you don't have to rack your brain - you consume the right amount of calories. On the other hand, if you have a tendency to put on weight, this means your calorie intake exceeds your physical needs and the surplus is stored as fat.

Adding "Air" to the Spare Tire

If you want to stop accumulating excess pounds, you must either reduce your calorie intake, increase your physical activity so you burn more calories or, even better, adopt a combination of the two approaches.

Despite having an increasingly sedentary way of life, many individuals have increased their consumption of calories by almost 20 percent during recent years. Several factors contribute to this over consumption, the most important being the major role occupied by "fast-food" and manufactured foods in our diet.

Supported by billions of marketing dollars, sales of these products are reaching record highs and are now part of the basic diet of a growing number of people, especially for young individuals. This is a bad situation, because these products often contain extraordinary amounts of fat and sugar that lead to the absorption of a large number of calories.

There are two options available to reduce the negative impact of these products: Reduce consumption and avoid their related calorie intake, or increase the level of physical activity to burn the excess calories.

For example, to burn the calories contained in a simple snack that includes one soft drink, one bag of chips and one candy bar, you must walk more than 2 and a half hours (150 minutes) or go out for a bike ride of an hour and a half. That's a pretty high price to pay for a snack eaten in barely ten minutes.

Get Moving!

Physical activity is essential to maintaining good health. Aside from burning more calories, exercise can have a positive effect on the cardiovascular system reduce the risks of some cancers, like colon and breast cancer. However, many overweight individuals can't hope to control their weight just by being more active. They also need to reduce their caloric intake by adopting a healthy diet, rich in vegetable products.

Comments About - Junk In The Trunk In Texas

Do you remember the advert that had two old women chomping on a fast food beefburger, one of them says, "Where's the BEEF?"

We've read this article at least a dozen times and still cannot find out why "Junk in the Trunk" was used in the title.

WHERE'S THE JUNK and WHERE'S THE TRUNK?

OK, we're all Brits, but we have been fed an endless TV soap opera diet from the US FOR YEARS.

Trunk = rear end (of car used for carrying luggage)

Rear end = Ass

Junk in rear end = Fat ass

So, and we are guessing here:

Junk In The Trunk In Texas = People from Texas usually have a big fat ass.

If this translation is correct:

Pat Carpenter whom writes for Precedent Insurance Company better NOT revisit the great State of Texas in the near future!

No seriously.

The Texans I've met have NEVER lived up to their reputation... they've ALWAYS exceeded it.

Now, has anyone (ever) been DRUNK in a Boot in Texas???

Boot = The rear end of a car used for carrying luggage or really drunk people.

The link above comes from the JackatSea blog:

<>
Today we landed in Esmeraldas in 'Ecuador' (spelling it right now). Again, just like many of the South American countries we have visited, it's like a third world country and you have to wonder how people put up with such conditions. I would say its a powder keg ready to go off.
The main produce of Esmeraldas is oil - and part of our tour was to go and see the oil refineries. What an eye sore! It is situated in rain forest up in the hills - not a pretty site. <>

The article below has been awarded the top destination information article of the month.

Ecuador is Very Diverse

The Republic of Ecuador is a representative democratic republic in South America, bordered by Colombia on the north, by Peru on the east and south, and by the Pacific Ocean on the west.

Ecuadors capital is Quito and is located in the province of Pichincha in the Sierra region. Its largest city is Guayaquil, located in the province of Guayas in the Coast. Cotopaxi, which is located just south of Quito, in the neighbouring province of that same name, is one of the worlds highest active volcanoes. Mount Chimborazo is considered to be the most distant point from the centre of the Earth, given the ovoid shape of the Earth, which is widest at the equator.

Tungurahua volcano, overlooking the town of Banos, south of Quito, has recently begun erupting again causing nearby villages to be evacuated. Travellers should monitor the news for any ongoing developments and heed any local advice regarding the mountain.

The smallest country in the rugged Andean highlands, Ecuador has an array of vibrant indigenous cultures, well preserved colonial architecture, otherworldly volcanic landscapes and dense rainforest.

The country exports primary products such as oil, bananas, flowers and shrimp, fluctuations in world market prices can have a substantial domestic impact.

The largest ethnic group is comprised of Mestizos, the mixed descendants of Spanish colonists and indigenous Native Americans, who constitute over half of the population.

The food in Ecuador is very diverse, varying with altitude as do the agricultural conditions. Pork, chicken, meat or guinea pig are popular in the mountain regions served with an immense variety of cereals, potatoes or rice.

There is a high risk to the security of those travelling in the northern areas of Ecuador that border with Colombia because of kidnappings and increased crime. Landmines are present in the Cordillera Del Condor region, bordering Peru. Travel to these areas should be avoided.

In terms of weather, there are only two real seasons. The rainy season and the dry season but there are significant variations among the geographical regions and temperature is often a factor of altitude. Even during the rainy season, most days are sunny until the afternoon. Coastal Ecuador is quite cloudy most of the time but enjoys daily highs averaging around 30 all the year round and a short but quite damp wet season between January and April. The Galapagos Islands are strangely dry for their equatorial position.

Ecuador may be tiny, but it packs a spectacular punch.

Carbon The Element of Life on Earth and Other Carbon Information

All the recent media attention about "carbon" and the extra taxes passed to reduce "carbon" emissions tend to omit an importent point. They should be using the full title Carbon Dioxide Emissions rather than just carbon.

Carbon is a chemical element that has the symbol C and atomic number 6. An abundant nonmetallic, tetravalent element, carbon has several allotropic forms.

As the free element it forms allotropes from differing kinds of carbon-carbon bonds, such as in graphite and diamond. Coal is the main source of carbon in mineral form, containing up 95% of carbon in Anthracite. Recently discovered nanostructured forms called fullerenes that include buckyballs such as C60, nanotubes, and nanofibers. Because of their high strength-to-weight ratio, it is hoped that many of these carbon compounds will soon be practical for use in advanced structural composite materials. [source]

The abundance of carbon in the universe, along with the unusual polymer-forming ability of carbon-based compounds at the common temperatures encountered on Earth, make this element the basis of the chemistry of all known life.

So, not all things "carbon" are bad. In fact many companies around the world develop carbon based products in many applications.

Examples:

LPR's Web Hosting Goes Tits-up and Globat Hosting Support is Useless

Some day's are just meant to be a struggle. The LPR team have been working hard to update the site with a new design layout and other useful navigation addons. Last night, after checking everything, I went to upload the changed files only to find Globat (the hosting company) has removed my upload permissions! I immediately sent off a support request.

Sixteen hours later, their support sent me an email saying, "Yes, we know about this problem and we're working to fix things". Thirty hours have now passed since my first support request and the FTP is still bust. What's even worse, some of my RSS feeds are showing permission errors and I've no way to fix them. Globat are the most dire web hosting company it's been my misfortune to hire.

Well, having got THAT off my chest...

The article of the day is all about web hosting and things that can go wrong...

7 Signs Of Reliable Web Hosting

Either you want to set up a new web site or you have a website that is doing quite well on the Internet and so far there have been no issues, and you are happy with the way things are going. But have you ever stopped to consider how reliable your existing or potential web host is? Here are a few key questions you can ask to figure out if your web host is reliable or not:

How secure is the server on which your web site is hosted? Does it feature powerful firewalls - not the free versions that are available on the Internet - and strong anti-virus software? Or, is the server chock-a-block with worms and Trojans and hackers are regularly fingering into the server ports? Of course, you cannot figure this out on your own if you aren't a technical person, and the best way to find this out would be to read reviews about your web host and speak to his other clients.

How powerful is the server hardware? If your website is hosted on a server backed by obsolete hardware, which is networked with an antiquated broadband connection, then you've had it. Remember, the computer today is converging with TV and video and the hardware has to be powerful enough not just to support huge multimedia files, but also to ensure that these multimedia files are easily downloaded by the website visitors.

What is the server uptime? Does your web host's server work on crutches or does it hum along perfectly? If you are getting a server downtime of 5% and over because your web host keeps rebooting his beautiful system, then it's time to get a new web host.

What's the customer support like? Does your web host feature 24/7 customer support staff or is your host a reseller? If he's a reseller, he will not be as dedicated as you would like him to be; or, even if he isn't a reseller and doesn't have 24/7 customer support, then he is not reliable.

Does your web host take backups? All reliable web hosts always back up the data on their server just in case anything goes wrong. And this is a very important feature, which users do not bother to enquire when they rent the space.

Does your server have SSL? If you're planning to set up a shop then no customer will ever swipe his credit card on your site unless your website has a SSL (Secure Sockets Layer). Ensure that your web host provides you with this feature before you sign up with him.

Is the host server easy to use? Once you upload your website, you will need to change it frequently and for that to happen you need to have access to a control panel that's easy to use. Plus, you will also want to plug in automated scripts such as blogs, chat rooms, content management system, etc. on your website. Make sure your web host's control panel is easy to use and that you are given many automated scripts to use.

These are the basic questions every reliable web host should be able to answer favorably. Also, do not stop after asking these questions - get your technical guy to ask about telnet access, error pages and all that jazzed out jargon, which technical guys yak all the time. Once you're sure your web host is the cat's whiskers - go ahead and hire space from him.
